PRESS RELEASE

Alesis Introduces Monitor One Mk2 at AES

September 28, 2000

Alesis introduces the newly designed Monitor One Mk2- the next generation of Alesis' Monitor One passive nearfield studio reference monitor- at the 109th AES Convention in Los Angeles.

Marketing manager Randy Neiman reports, "While the award-winning Monitor One is a very popular product, our new acoustic engineering team felt that we could make profound improvements in performance, without compromising our competitive price point. By re-designing the transducer drivers, and subtly changing the cabinets for resonance, the new speaker features extended dynamic range, and improved efficiency."

Monitor One Mk2's crossover point has been adjusted to 2kHz, which provides a truer, flatter frequency response than the original unit. The newly renovated 6.5" low frequency driver provides a more detailed and controlled low-end. The monitor's updated voice coil provides improved performance and longer throw. Additionally, a new industrial cabinet design offers longer and more rigid porting tubes for a punchier sound, while new radiused corners reduce edge diffraction and improve the quality of sound.

The Monitor One Mk2 also features an improved 1" silk-dome ferrofluid-cooled, high-frequency driver for a natural response that helps prevent ear fatigue during long mixing sessions. Additionally, magnetic shielding allows users to position the speaker close to video and computer monitors.

Mk2 also features the next generation of the Alesis exclusive SuperPort venting technology which eliminates the "choking" effects of smaller, shorter ports. The result is a frequency response which extends well below comparable nearfield monitors.

According to Jim Mack, Alesis vice president of sales and marketing, "Superior accuracy was our primary focus when designing this new monitor. The success of the Monitor One encouraged Alesis engineers to raise the stakes and provide an even greater performance speaker."

With the launch of Mk2, Alesis once again demonstrates its commitment to quality acoustic products with very competitive pricing.
