BIAS Initiates Development of Deck for BeOS September 26, 2000Berkley Integrated Audio Software Inc. (BIAS) announced plans to begin porting their award-winning multitrack digital audio workstation software, BIAS Deck, to BeOS, the multimedia operating system from Be Incorporated. BeOS will afford Deck a number of performance advantages including low-audio latency, master timecode source, Symmetric Multi Processing, multithreading and an extremely responsive user interface. Utilizing BeOS, Deck will be available for the first time to users with Intel or other x86-compatible PC computers. The porting of Deck to BeOS, follows the ongoing project of porting BIAS Peak, the companys sample editing and mastering program, to BeOS. BIAS Peak for BeOS has recently entered its beta test period, and is expected to be released in early 2001.
"BeOS is the most advanced digital media-oriented operating system weve ever seen," said Steve Berkley, CEO and President of BIAS. " Porting Deck to BeOS is part of our larger development strategy to increase the compatibility of our technology with new devices, including audio hardware appliances. Bringing the real-time feel of BeOS to our proven digital audio workstation will be an invaluable asset for anyone working with audio or video assembly on BeOS."
"BIAS efforts to port Deck to BeOS are valued by Be and should greatly benefit the digital audio community," said Lamar Potts, VP of Sales and Marketing for Be. "The two technologies will work together seamlessly and will greatly enhance the audio and video editing process."
The porting of BIAS Peak and Deck to BeOS is part of a broader strategy of developing the companys core technologies for next generation operating systems on multiple platforms. The BeOS versions bring Peak and Deck to the PC platform via an operating system that is specifically tailored to media-rich content creation that can be run alongside Windows. BIAS Peak and Deck are also being made compatible with the Mac OSX, Apples highly anticipated next generation, completely reengineered operating system for the Macintosh. The platform-independent nature of this development strategy also means that the new versions of BIAS Deck and Peak will not only be ideal audio software tools for PC and Mac desktop users, but also a natural choice for driving any dedicated hardware audio device, including samplers, synthesizers, multitrack digital audio workstations, and mixers.
