BIAS Extends Audio Software to Next-Generation Multiplatform Operating SystemsPeak and Deck to run on both Mac and PC platforms, plus dedicated audio hardware devices. September 27, 2000Following last years announcement that it would develop for standard PC computers running the Be Operating System (BeOS), Berkley Integrated Audio Software Inc. (BIAS) today demonstrated its first product for Intel-compatible PCs and announced that it is actively developing new versions of Peak and Deck, their award-winning audio recording, editing, mixing and delivery software. BIAS will not only create versions of their products for Mac- and x86-compatible PC computing platforms, but will extend its technology by applying BIAS market-leading expertise to dedicated audio hardware products. Once completed, BIAS Peak and Deck will be platform-independent, and set new standards for performance by offering users the speed, efficiency, and stability of the cutting-edge operating systems developed for todays high-performance desktop computers, and other dedicated audio hardware devices.
"We are very pleased to bring our core audio technology to this new level," said Steve Berkley, CEO and President of BIAS, Inc. "Not only will our users love the far superior performance and features afforded by
running our products under the latest operating systems, but our proven Mac technology will now have the capacity to reach a much broader audience by virtue of running on PCs via BeOS, and on dedicated audio
hardware devices via other operating systems such as BeIA."
BIAS Software for BeOS on x86 PC Desktop Computers
The initial phase of development involves porting of both products to BeOS, a multimedia operating system from Be Incorporated. BeOS affords Peak and Deck a number of performance advantages including low-latency, master timecode source, Symmetric Multi Processing, multithreading and an extremely responsive user interface. BIAS Peak for BeOS has been in development since early 2000, and has recently entered its beta test phase. It is expected to ship in early 2001. Development of Deck for BeOS is scheduled to begin soon. "BIAS award-winning technology will run amazingly well on Be platforms," said Lamar Potts, VP of Sales and Marketing at Be. "Both Be and BIAS have succeeded in developing exceptional software solutions. We compliment BIAS on their efforts to further extend their technology to Be users."
BIAS Software for Macintosh OSX
BIAS Peak and Deck will also be made compatible with the Mac OSX, Apples much anticipated next generation, completely reengineered operating system for the Macintosh. Under OSX applications can take advantage of the benefits of OSX, including protected memory, preemptive multitasking, BSD networking, and high-performance I/O device support. A Mac OSX-compatible version of Peak is currently underway, and a Mac OSX-compatible version of Deck is scheduled to follow soon after the port to BeOS has begun.
BIAS Software for Audio Hardware Devices
Due to the platform-independent nature of this new core technology, BIAS Peak and Deck for BeOS will not only be ideal audio software tools for the PC desktop user, but also be a natural choice for driving any dedicated hardware audio device. Such devices tailored for audio enthusiasts who desire an alternative to creating music with desktop computers include samplers, synthesizers, multitrack digital audio workstations, and mixers, and are based upon generic PC hardware running BeIA (a software platform incorporating technology from BeOS media operating system, designed for a variety of devices, from consumer electronic products to Internet appliances to professional media workstations), or other operating system. BIAS Peak and Deck are poised to become the OEM technology of choice for manufacturers of such audio hardware devices. For more information, visit their web site at www.bias-inc.com. |
