Cycling '74 Announces MSP 2.0 Extension to MaxMajor upgrade to Cycling 74's collection of DSP objects for audio and media
applications September 24, 2000Cycling '74 today announced its first major upgrade of MSP for MacOS - a
collection of signal processing objects for use with Cycling '74's Max*
object-oriented programming environment. Initially released in 1997, MSP
extends Max's ability to create custom MIDI and media applications by
adding over 100 objects that synthesize, process, analyze and delay audio
signals in realtime.
The release of MSP 2.0 includes support for sample-accurate scheduling,
improved MIDI timing, and over 40 new signal processing and user interface
objects. The new release also extends MSP's capabilities in the areas of
polyphony management, spectral processing, interactive waveform display,
and audio-rate sequencing. MSP 2.0 also optimizes its signal processing
objects for use with the G4 Velocity Engine.
"With MSP 2.0, we've moved far beyond comparable modular synthesis and DSP
software, making it far simpler to create complex and powerful custom audio
applications," said Cycling '74 President David Zicarelli. "Our first major
upgrade of MSP represents an explosion of creative innovation inspired by
the intense use of our software in many different contexts over the past
three years. Based on preliminary reactions, MSP 2 promises to be a huge
hit with our existing users."
MSP 2.0 features numerous enhancements in the area of audio I/O, including
support for numerous 8- to 32-bit audio file formats, 512 I/O channels, and
inter-application audio connections using Propellerheads' ReWire and
Digidesign's DirectConnect. MSP 2.0 also includes new and updated
interactive tutorials and online help to get users up to speed.
MSP 2.0 will ship Q4 1999. MSRP is $295. MSP 2.0 will be available to
current owners for an upgrade price of $100.
MSP 2.0 will be available for download from the Cycling '74 web site. Cycling '74 products are also distributed in the
United States by Digital Edge Distribution. Users of the downloaded trial
version may purchase an authorization code online to transform the trial
version into a fully-functional copy. For more information, visit their web site at www.cycling74.com. |
