September 22, 2000Solid State Logic, a leader in digital and analogue consoles for the music, broadcast, post and film industries, will unveil new analogue and digital I/O features for the Aysis Air and Aysis Air Mobile digital broadcast consoles at the 109th AES show, held from September 22 to 25 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Booth 701. New features include SSLs RIO Grande I/O option (first introduced with the Axiom-MT) and a MADI interface option. An Ayis Air console with the new features will be on display at the booth at AES.
"When dealing with broadcast and live, on-air productions, studios need a multitude of I/O options available to handle any situation," says Niall Feldman, Director of Product Management for Solid State Logic. "The new options for Aysis Air and Aysis Air Mobile deliver greatly increased I/O power while taking up relatively little space. This is especially important for broadcast trucks that require extra audio performance from a smaller footprint console. The additions to the Aysis series consoles should meet the I/O demands expressed by the industry."
The RIO Grande I/O option provides up to 12 16-channel, 24-bit ADC/DAC cards plus up to four 24-channel AES/EBU cards in a single 14U space. Full PSU redundancy is included in the RIO Grande. This incredibly compact unit yields a total of 192 analogue inputs and outputs, all with individual gain trims, and 96 digital inputs and outputs with sample rate converters.
The Aysis systems now support the serial Multi-channel Audio Digital Interface (MADI). The MADI specification provides for the serial digital transmission of up to 56 channels of linear digital audio data, sharing a common sampling frequency within the 32 kHz to 48 kHz range. The specification supports resolutions of up to 24 bits per channel. All this audio power is accomplished through a single point-to-point 75-ohm coaxial cable or through fiber optics. Both the RIO Grande and MADI provide powerful options for Aysis covering any installation situation.
The Aysis Air has seen action in some of the most demanding situations with installations including WNET, WLS, WRC, NMT, SWTV, KABC, KGO and WWOR. In addition, Turner Studios recently installed the first Aysis Air Mobile console in its network production truck. Both systems rely on either stand-alone internal routing or routing through SSLs Hub Router system for facility-wide signal sharing capabilities. Both systems also offer the advantage of reduced wiring complexity with 95 channels of digital audio passing along a single coaxial cable. The new I/O options featured at AES continue this very desirable design trend, further addressing the space needs of broadcasters.
"SSL engineers have delivered a fully digital console that has an outstanding performance record," states Feldman. "We have proven through our A-Series systems that digital consoles can yield rock-solid reliability, particularly for critical live operations, along with top sound quality. Now we are offering these expanded options for the Aysis Air systems to broadcasters, further extending the I/O resources." For more information, visit their web site at www.solid-state-logic.com. |
