Stagetec Announces the CANTUS Totally Digital Console Range to the USA
September 29, 2000
STAGETEC's CANTUS MK II is a high-quality digital mixing system for broadcast and post-production, as well as for theater and broadcast remote trucks.
CANTUS provides a whopping 40 bits of floating point DSP on the 136 input channels. There are up to 64 mix busses, with up to 32 AUX busses, plus stereo and mono groups. Each channel can have multiple band EQ (is 8 enough?), as well as dynamics, direct outs, inserts, and a host of other features.
Total Dynamic Automation to timecode is available, as well as serial and parallel remote machine control. For Post-Production, a special version of the CANTUS, called CINETRA is available. The CINETRA offers full monitoring for 4 stems with 'paddle' and push button monitor selectors.
An integral part of the CANTUS console is STAGETEC's NEXUS Digital Audio Routing and Interconnect System that provides all of the input and output connections for one or more CANTUS consoles. The unique modular, distributed structure design of NEXUS puts the hardware where the machines are, eliminating long cable runs to central router rooms
For greatest flexibility, each CANTUS can have up to 4 so-called 'daughter' consoles which can either share the same channels of the main console, or have their own dedicated channels. These features are great for FOH mixing, music premixing, and the like. Fiber optic cabling is used to link all units, carrying audio as well as control and sync signals and can be located as much as 1000 meters apart.
NEXUS accepts analog signals (+28 dBu!), as well as AES, TOS Link, S/PDIF, SDIF, MADI, and most other digital audio formats, as well as serial RS232, RS422, and MIDI data. These signals can be routed throughout the plant, to any CANTUS console, or NEXUS device as needed.
The CANTUS and NEXUS can be slaved to external reference, with built-in hierarchical selection of sync options should the primary source fail. Sample Rate Converters are available on most digital inputs and outputs, so the System can output at multiple rates at the same time.
Options for the CANTUS include Surround Sound Mixing in Dolby Surround, HDTV, Dolby SR-D or Sony SDDS, as well as motorized joystick panners. For news use, an N-1 (Mix Minus) System, with a unique Talk Aroundä Option is available.
Both Cantus and NEXUS feature 'hot swappable' cards, redundant PSUs, compact size, and remarkably low power consumption. For more information, visit their web site at www.stagetec.com. |
