PRESS RELEASE

Stagetec's NEXUS Audio Routing System

(Click for a close-up)
September 29, 2000

STAGETEC's announces the availability of the NEXUS Digital Audio Interconnect and Routing System with TDMB (Time Domain Multiplexed Bus) technology. Its unique modular, distributed structure puts the hardware where the machines are, eliminating long cable runs to central router rooms. Fiber optic cabling links all units, carrying audio as well as control and sync signals.

NEXUS features redundant PSUs and "hot swappable" cards.

The interconnect between NEXUS hardware locations in a facility is made by low cost fiber-optic cables at distances up to 5,000 meters with absolutely no audio signal or system clock deterioration.

The NEXUS system can also serve as the I/O for STAGETEC's CANTUS Digital Audio Consoles. Any input to the NEXUS (e.g. microphone inputs from each studio) can be used by any Cantus console in the system.

The NEXUS router can be fitted with up to 4,096 inputs and outputs including all common input and output formats: AES/EBU, Yamaha, S/PDIF, MADI, and Analog (+28 dBu!). NEXUS microphone inputs feature a dynamic range greater than any conventional microphone making input prefade clipping a thing of the past - without the need for analog gain trimming!

NEXUS can operate at any sampling rate from 26 to 52 kHz , with Sample Rate Converters on both inputs and outputs available.

A new addition to NEXUS is the new NEXUS STAR Optical Hub that provides optical fiber interfaced routing between NEXUS units, with 4,096 x 4,096 crosspoints in just 6 U of space. NEXUS STAR greatly reduces the amount of fiber optic cabling needed for large, distributed systems. MADI I/O is also available through the STAR for distribution to any other NEXUS units in the system.

Routing for signals other than audio is possible. RS-422, RS-232. RS-485, and MIDI serial data formats can be routed transparently via the NEXUS. NEXUS also provides for GPI/GPO interface as well as serial control by third party routers. Optional serial control of select third party amplifiers is seamlessly integrated into the router interface.

Router control can be via sophisticated GUI on standard or NT networked PCs. Hardware panels are also available and can control not just routing but also level trims and other parameters as required.
