Euphonix Develops Unique eDeck Player Software for Audio Professionals and Artists

At the 109th Audio Engineering Society Convention, Euphonix was demonstrating eDeck, a remarkable new application for replaying and format-converting high-quality digital audio mix files, and then moving them securely over computer networks and the Internet. The Rocket Powered software will be made available as a free download in Windows format (MacOS to follow), from the company’s web site, www.euphonix.com, and from Rocket Network at www.rocketnetwork.com. "The software creates a bridge between the many members of a creative production team that need to listen to mixes," says Scott Silfvast, company founder and Chief Product Officer. "And then transfers them in a variety of file formats to various people involved in the audio production process." eDeck moves files securely over the Internet utilizing the industry-standard Rocket Network, and specializes in multi-channel, 24/96 surround mix playback. "eDeck is designed to be used by non-engineers who have traditionally been isolated from the production process. Now artists, producers, record label staff or other studio clients can be involved in the production regardless of their technical training or geographic location," Silfvast says. "We are pleased to have Euphonix develop key software applications such as eDeck," states Pam Miller, Rocket Network’s President and CEO. "And now also as a reseller of Rocket Studio Centers to large audio production facilities, such as Emerald Studios in Nashville. Euphonix is in a unique position to bring the high-end audio production community into The Internet Age." In a digital world, how do you listen to and then move audio mixes to the next location they might be needed in the audio production process? How do you convert file formats so that the music recorded in the studio can reach listeners outside the facility? How do you get rough mixes to the band? How do you get vocal balance mixes to the producer? How do you get final mixes to the record company for approval? To the mastering house? To the record company archives? To manufacturing? Euphonix eDeck makes it all possible. "eDeck provides the power to control audio mixes as files in a digital world," offers Piers Plaskitt, Euphonix president. "Users can playback master-quality digital audio mixes and transport them over the Internet in a variety of formats required for archiving, remote auditioning, mastering and manufacturing. "While a project is being recorded and mixed in the studio, many people other than the engineer need to listen to a mix after the session – maybe the producer, a band member, or a record-company executive, eDeck is a simple yet highly efficient way to receive and/or convert a mix in the right format and listen to it. And when final mixes are approved, eDeck is an uncomplicated, secure way for record companies to audition and move audio mixes through the mastering and manufacturing process." eDeck will open and play master-quality audio mix files, including DVD-Audio 24-bit/96 kHz 5.1-channel surround mixes, and convert and encode files between various industry-standard file formats. The application will also convert files between 16-, 20- and 24-bit resolutions, at 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz sample rates. "If a studio, for example, wants a band member or producer to hear a mix," Silfvast continues, "they simply upload it to a secure Euphonix Studio. Instantly, from anywhere in the world, the band member or producer can download the mix file and audition it with eDeck on any PC." Inside a record company, the A&R Department, executive producer and marketing and promotions managers might need to hear a mix. And mix files might need to be sent to the mastering department, in-house or independent, and ultimately to manufacturing production. "Again, with a copy of eDeck on their computer," Silfvast says, "each department now has the power to listen to and move audio mixes as files securely via the Rocket Network."
