CD-R specialist HHB Communications is introducing the CDR830 BurnIT, a new low-cost professional audio CD recorder, at the 109th AES Convention, held from September 22-25 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Booth 1411. Despite a very affordable price tag, the new recorder cuts few corners, delivering a comprehensive feature set, rugged build quality and an audio specification that meets and even exceeds the standards set by its illustrious predecessor, the HHB CDR850.

Key elements of the CDR830 BurnITs exceptional sound quality are a precision 24-bit A-D converter and a 24-bit, multi-level Delta Sigma D-A converter. Solidly engineered for professional studio use, the CDR830 records on pro-type CD-R and CD-RW discs, not the more expensive consumer discs, and is entirely SCMS free.

Comprehensive analog and digital connectivity ensures that the CDR830 BurnIT integrates easily into most recording applications. RCA Phono analog line inputs and outputs are complemented by both coaxial and optical S/PDIF digital I/Os, with an on-board sample rate converter accepting frequencies from 32-48kHz. Auto track increment combines with four synchro-recording modes: one track, all tracks and multi-track. The fourth recording mode, the finalize feature, allows users to make digital recordings from CD, MD, DAT and DCC, all in a simple one-touch process. Recording from analog sources is similarly straightforward, with the same four synchro modes and auto track increment with adjustable level thresholds in 6dB steps. The 2x finalize feature means that the discs are 'fixed' in just two minutes.

Another important feature of particular interest to musicians, library music composers, archivists and broadcasters is the CDR830's CD Text facility. The user can name discs, artist and track names up to 120 characters per title, which will then be displayed on the wide range of CD Text compatible players currently in use.

In a CD recorder bristling with professional features, the HHB CDR830 BurnIT also includes digital record gain and balance control, input monitoring with track increment rehearsal, fade in/ out adjustable from 1-12 seconds, five CDRW erase modes, track skip ID recording, track index search on playback and program, random and repeat playback modes.

Commenting on the launch of the CDR830 BurnIT, HHB USA President David Beesley says, "HHB has a hard-earned reputation for innovation and quality in CD-R technology, so for us it isn't enough to simply produce an inexpensive recorder. In the CDR830 BurnIT, for the first time professionals have affordable access to a flexible, fully-featured CD recorder that they can rely on to deliver recordings of the very highest quality."
