SADiE, designer and manufacturer of the renowned SADiE digital audio workstations, will feature SADiE4 the newest version of its popular software system at the 109th AES Convention, held from September 22 to 25 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Booth 863. SADiE4, which supersedes the well-established SADiE3 software, is now standard with all new SADiE workstations, in addition to being available as a no-charge download from www.sadie.com. SADiE4 builds on the extremely successful SADiE3 software. Optimized to run faster than its predecessor, the new software offers faster editing speeds and improved response time. In order to maintain compatibility with future 32-bit operating systems, SADiE4 runs on Windows 95/98, Windows NT and Windows 2000. The new software includes a number of advanced features and functionality such as the optional CEDAR DeCrackle plug-in. The DeCrackle is designed to remove a range of high-density, small-amplitude, short-duration and additive impulsive disturbances, commonly known as crackles. This powerful function is presented in a simple interface requiring almost no user decisionsbringing extraordinary results without requiring any previous experience with restoration tools. Another optional feature of the SADiE4 is the DDP Image File. Now, an entire CD master can be written as a DDP image to a local PC drive or to a remote drive on a network. Any part of this image can be re-imported back into the SADiE at high-speed for further editing and mastering. At the forefront of file format technology, a standard feature of the SADiE4 enables multiple files to be batch imported into the system at fast speeds. In addition, the software supports long file names throughout the system. Project names, Playlists, Clipstores and Mixers can now all be up to 64 characters long and long track names are displayed throughout the system (including Disk Management). There are also more than 10 times as many auto-takes available offering greater flexibility in managing files. An additional standard feature of the SADiE4 is the increased playlist functionality with new clip placing options (snap out point to current time) available on the right mouse menu and as an auto-place option. Advanced E-E monitoring options, with a new source button on the transport control, switch record-enabled streams between monitoring input and monitoring stream playback. And the new Zoom map function enables the EDL view to be split into two linked displays with different zoom levels in each. Another SADiE4 feature is the ability to support a range of DVD-RAM drives for back-up, asset transfers and easy file interchange with devices such as the DEVA portable recorder. With a familiar user interface and ease-of-use, SADiE4 looks and feels very similar to the popular SADiE3 so no retraining is required.
