Arboretum Introduces Montage at AES

Arboretum Systems previewed Montage, its latest software product, at the 111th AES Convention. Montage opens a new era for recording artists, broadcasters, game developers, post-production sound engineers as well as hobbyists. Developed from the ground up for Mac OS X, 100% "Cocoa" native operating systems, Montage allows creators of multimedia content to organize, edit and process their media with a simplicity and efficiency never possible before.
In Montage, all media components, be they video, pictures, audio, MIDI and text, are equally at home. Montage makes it possible to freely lay out and combine in an infinite number of ways all these elements as parts of the same project window.
The notion of track assignment has been eliminated from the organizing, editing and processing phases of the
authoring process as non-fundamental, thereby freeing users from most of the constraints associated with the track metaphor.
Editing is done in place, facilitated by direct data access at all zoom levels through the overview window and its view selection frame. The overview permanently displays the entire project and the view selector makes jumping to and from different locations as easy as navigating on a map.
Montage makes it possible to process components either individually or in groups whether or not they belong to the same media family. Processor parameter changes can be controlled via MIDI . The automation data is recorded and can be edited.
Arboretum processors, such as Hyperprism and Ray Gun, are available for use directly in Montage and new video processing algorithms are also currently being developed.
Montage version 1.0 is scheduled to ship in the first quarter of 2002.
