D.A.S. Introduces the Compact 1 at AES

November 30, 2001

D.A.S. Audio is introducing the new Compact 1 at AES in New York. This new self-powered loudspeaker system optimizes performance and reliability in a wide range of portable and permanently installed sound reinforcement applications.

The Compact 1, a three-way, biamplified system, was designed to be used as a full-range, stand-alone unit without the need for bass reinforcement. The self-powered system incorporates a 1000 W "Class D" switching amplifier which utilizes two 500 W ICEpower amplifier modules manufactured by Bang & Olufsen PowerHouse. One 500 W channel is used for the low-frequency section and another 500 W channel for the mid-high section. Both channels offer full sets of protections for both the amplifier and the loudspeaker components.

The low-frequency section employs the D.A.S. G-354, 15-inch low-frequency speaker with four-inch voice coil. Mid-range frequencies are reproduced by a horn loaded B-6, six-inch cone loudspeaker, developing high sensitivity and consistent pattern control. An M-5, one-inch exit compression driver with a two-inch titanium diaphragm handles high-frequency reproduction. The driver is coupled to a constant directivity horn providing enhanced pattern control and maximum definition.

The trapezoidal enclosure is manufactured from Wisa Birch plywood and enclosure protection against both the elements and abrasion is accomplished by means of multiple coats of catalyzed polyurethane paint. A reticulated foam filter behind a steel grille protects components. Ancra Track flying hardware provides a suspension option that is safe and simple to use. The track permits fast vertical angle variation so that precise coverage can be achieved with ease. 16 M10 eyebolt based points are also included for fixed installation applications.

Sennheiser Electronic Corporation distributes D.A.S. Audio exclusively in the United States.
