New Drivers and Expanded Compatibility for Tascam's US-428Controller and USB Interface adds Macintosh Recording Software, Expanded Windows Compatibility, Control of New Software Applications and Virtual Synthesizer Control December 2, 2001
TASCAM has announced the release of new v3.0 software and expanded capabilities of their US-428 digital audio workstation controller. In addition to its already impressive feature set, the US-428 now offers a greater level of compatibility with Windows ME and Windows 2000 operating systems, control of virtual synthesizers like Native Instruments' acclaimed B4, compatibility with the company's GigaStudio sampling software, and a new chromatic tuner. Also, the US-428 now includes Steinberg's Cubasis VST audio recording/MIDI sequencing software for both PC and Macintosh platforms. The new v3.0 drivers are available for free download at TASCAM's web site, www.tascam.com.
Shipping since September 2000, the US-428 combines a hardware interface with computer functionality to interface with both Windows- and Macintosh-based sequencing platforms via a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. The US-428 requires no additional interface card to install, and is compatible with applications that accept standard MIDI controller messages.
"The US-428 has been a strong product for TASCAM since day one," states Daniel Keller, TASCAM senior product specialist. "Now, with v3 software, we're
happy to show that the US-428 has continued to evolve to meet the needs of a wider set of users with its expanded capabilities."
The US-428 ($625 MSRP) allows users full control over any number of
software tracks through eight hardware faders, selectable in banks with buttons located beneath the US-428's jog wheel. The unit's control surface also supports transport, EQ and control functions for sequencers and DAWs. Up to four simultaneous analog inputs of 16- or 24-bit resolution at 44.1 or 48 kHz are supported. The US-428 also features a 2-channel digital input and a 32 channel MIDI interface. Two audio output channels support 16- or 24-bit resolution in stereo or mono, and at 44.1 or 48 kHz.
The US-428 comes bundled with Steinberg's Cubasis VST audio recording and sequencing software for the PC and Mac. Currently, the US-428 also offers varying levels of compatibility with an incredibly wide variety of other audio software applications, including PC applications like Steinberg Cubase VST 5, all versions of Steinberg Cubasis, Steinberg Nuendo 1.5, eMagic Logic 4.7 or later, Digidesign ProTools 5.x, Digidesign ProTools Free, Minnetonka MX Tracks, Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro, and Mac applications like Cubase 5, all versions of Cubasis, Nuendo 1.5, Logic 4.6 or later, ProTools 5.x, ProTools Free 5.x, MOTU Digital Performer v2.7 or later, BIAS Deck, and Bias Peak. The US-428 also works with virtual synthesizer and sampling applications like Native Instruments B4, TASCAM GigaStudio v2.20.42 or later, Propellerheads Reason and others.
