D.A.S. Audio adds a new self-powered subwoofer to their ACtive Power lineup of products. The Sub 118A is designed to be used in fixed and portable sound reinforcement applications requiring low frequency reinforcement. The self-powered Sub 118A incorporates a state-of-the-art "Class D" switching amplifier, which utilizes one 500 W ICEpower amplifier module manufactured by Bang & Olufsen PowerHouse. The amplifier is protected against over and under-voltages, incorporates a full set of protections for the amplifier and loudspeaker, as well as soft clip, and soft start up functions. The Sub 118A houses a D.A.S. P-18 18-inch cone transducer configured as a direct radiator. The P-18 features a 3-inch voice coil and a carefully engineered cooling scheme, resulting in high power handling and low power compression. The cabinet provides an on-axis frequency range of 35Hz - 150Hz and a rated maximum SPL of 131dB (at one meter) The ultra-compact enclosure (740mm x 51mm x 41mm) is easy to transport and can be placed unobtrusively in permanent installations such as clubs and churches. The cabinet is finished with a rugged catalyzed polyurethane paint that permits color adaptations and provides weather resistance. Loudspeaker components are protected by a heavy-duty steel grille and are sealed against corrosion by a polyamide powder coat finish. Sennheiser Electronic Corporation distributes D.A.S. Audio exclusively in the United States. It joins a list of distinguished audio brands that Sennheiser distributes including Neumann microphones, Chevin Research amplifiers and Innova-Son digital consoles.
