Digigram has begun shipment of the VXpocket 440, the latest of its Pocket family of PC Cards designed for professional sound recording, editing, produciton and audio analysis on a laptop computer. The VXpocket 440 features four balanced analog inputs at microphone or line level, four balanced analog outputs, one stereo SPDIF input and output accommodating direct digital transfer, and an LTC (SMPTE) time-code input. Also provided is a breakout cable with XLR connectors for the analog inputs/outputs, phone (CINCH) connectors for digital and LTC, and a mini-plug headphone output. The VXpocket 440, like its companion VXpocket v2 stereo card, offers 24-bit performance with PC applications using Microsoft's WAVE protocol, as well as PC and MAC applications using ASIO. "We've engineered these feature-packed VXpocket cards to put enhanced performance, convenience and value in the hands of producers everywhere," said Neil Glassman, president of Digigram, Inc. "And, at a retail price of $850, we believe the VXpocket 440 more than meets the challenge." Introduced originally in the spring of 2000, delivery of the VXpocket 440 has been delayed while Digigram engineers found ways to overcome limitations on the PCMCIA bus enabling the VXpocket 440 to meet its design specifications. VXpocket v2 Enhancements Digigram also announced at AES enhancements for the VXpocket v2 inclduing new cable that adds a connector for a headphone output and the inclusion of free SFX software. Stage Research, Inc. (www.stageresearch.com) has produced a basic version of its SFX software that works exclusively with the VXpocket v2 and is ideal for the simplest sound effects applications. "This is the first time of several collaborations where software developers provide VXpocket-specific tools for audio professionals," said Digigram PCX/VX product development manager, Stephane Bert. The software is included on the VXpocket installation CD-ROM and may be requested from Stage Research. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.digigram.com/.
