DVD-A Direct Authoring Package from SADiE Moves Forward

SADiE has announced the addition of several new features to the DVD-A Direct Windows-based authoring system for DVD-Audio, announced at the AES Convention in Amsterdam earlier this year. With the inclusion of DVD-A Direct and optional MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing) encoding, a SADiE editing and mastering workstation delivers a complete solution for the entire DVD-A production process, from editing and mixing in 5.1 surround to authoring the disc to DVD-R or DLT tape. SADiE DVD-A Direct even creates on-screen menus automatically, offering audio engineers a simple and foolproof solution for generating the video interface. SADiE's DVD-A Direct supports all audio formats in the DVD-A specification, along with many functions to simplify the DVD-A authoring process. Unlike other existing DVD-A authoring systems that are often overly complex, time consuming and unwieldy, DVD-A Direct offers an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, allowing fast and easy ordering of tracks on the disc to create an album playlist. All functions are accessible from Windows menus, toolbars or context-sensitive mouse click. Multi-page and hierarchical menus offer a wide range of styles and font sizes, greatly extending the range of design features available to the author. Multiple still-picture displays for each track are available with picture transition tools, and most popular graphic file formats are supported. The system is compatible with both NTSC and PAL standards, and supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio formats. DVD-A Direct supports the DLT/DDP tape specification for manufacturing the DVD-A master, along with a range of DVD-R recorder operations including Record (test or write), Copy Disc, Verify, Create and Write Image, Read Image. A progress display with time remaining indication is also provided. DVD-A Direct can create fully-compliant DVD-A reference discs that may be played directly on most DVD-A players for instant quality control checking. Support for additional DVD-R drives is being incorporated, including the new Pioneer A03 read/write drives.
