ATI Reissues 8MX2 Preamp/Mixer

October 7, 2002

ATI (Audio Toys Inc), part of the newly formed ATI Group announces the re-issue of the popular 8MX2 pre-amp. Combining eight of ATI's Hallmark High Voltage (plus or minus 48v) microphone preamplifiers with an 8MX2 mixer, the one-rack space unit compliments any digital, analog, or live sound installation.

The 8MX2 packs flexibility unrivaled by anything short of a full-blown mixing console under its modest hood. In a hard-disc recording studio, the 8MX2 provides high quality microphone preamplifiers (all-too-often absent in the average digital setup) and a means for monitoring the output of the computer both during recording and playback.

In an analog project studio, the 8MX2's high performance microphone preamplifiers again ensure absolute fidelity, and with an input range spanning microphone level to line level, the 8MX2 can be permanently patched to dedicated inputs of a mixing console.

On the road, the 8MX2 can be fed from the stage microphone splitter box, eliminating both the need to use the direct, auxiliary, or group outputs of a mixing console and the associated patching and monitoring headaches that such "work-arounds" entail. Additionally, the user may connect the 8MX2 to the balanced line level inputs of a digital multi track for quality live remote recordings and create a rough mixdown of all the recorded tracks for immediate, in-the-field artist critique.

If eight inputs won't cut it, up to six 8MX2s may be linked together for multiple unit connection of the cue and mix busses. A built-in, adjustable limiter eliminates input overload distortion that would otherwise spoil a 'keeper' take or the smooth flow of a live performance.

"The 8MX2 packs a deceptively large punch in its one-rack frame," commented Gordon Smart, ATI's business manager. "With eight mic-pre's handling any signal you throw at them, flexible bussing, in-line limiters, and the option to link multiple units, the 8MX2 is one powerful tool."
