Software Updates for Soundscape 32 Previewed October 7, 2002
Mackie Designs previewed Version 3.7 software and Console
Manager Version 1.5 upgrades for the Mackie Broadcast Professional
Soundscape 32. Version 3.7 software provides improved user interface
capabilities while Console Manager Version 1.5 implements support for
Mackie Control/Mackie Control Extender and the recently announced
Baby HUI control surfaces. Both updates will be available for
existing Soundscape users at www.mackie.com/mbp later this
month.
With Console Manager Version 1.5, Soundscape users can benefit from
optical touch sensitive faders and comprehensive editing control
without the limitations of a standard mouse/keyboard combination.
Both Mackie Control and Baby HUI connect via a standard MIDI
interface. Configuring the Soundscape software is simply a matter of
selecting Mackie Control or Baby HUI from the Console Manager window.
Version 3.7 software implements a number of user interface
improvements that make the already intuitive Soundscape software even
easier to use. Improvements with 3.7 include:
Track Arming On The Fly
- It is now possible to adjust and change tracks armed for recording
during a record pass, similar to the characteristics of a tape
machine.
"Gapless" Punch-out Preference
- The Record Setup Window (under the Settings Menu) now offers a
"Gapless Punch-Out" preference that can be engaged or disengaged as
desired. When this preference is engaged and a punch-out is
performed, the existing audio behind the punch-out point will be
played instantaneously with no gaps.
Punch-in Recording
- Version 3.7 performs faster manual punch-in recording (on-the-fly)
capabilities.
Copy & Paste Functionality
- The ability to copy an audio file (or a collection of files) within
an arrangement and paste that same file to a new position is now
implemented.
Multiple Active Parts Mode
- This new mode will allow overlapping multiple Parts that have the
same track output assignments. The Part that will be heard upon play
back will always be the top most Part, regardless of edits that may
have been made.
Increased Maximum Parts
- The maximum number of Parts in any given arrangement has been
increased to 16,384.
Improved EQ Mixer Elements
- Version 3.7 greatly improves overload handling when working with
multiple EQ Elements in a single mixer column.
Tool Tips Added
- A "Tool Tip" window will display information about a given tool or
function button when the mouse is positioned over that button.
Auto Track Output Assignment
- With this new feature, users can select whether they want the
physical output of the Soundscape 32 to correspond to a track or to
an audio region within the Arrangement Window.
Global Move/Copy Function
- This new feature allows users to move either selected or all Parts
within an arrangement to the current position of the transport
locator.
Video File Player Support
- Support for the following video playback applications:
- Microsoft Video for Windows (Legacy V3.3)
- DirectShow V 8.x (DirectShow 8.x or later must be installed on your system)
- DPS Reality Build 145 (B. 234 is released but has not been tested yet)
- Digisuite Mix/Motion
- Digisuite LE
New M-S Decoder Mixer Element
- This new "M-S Decoder" Mixer plug-in will convert audio signals
recorded via the M-S (mid-side) recording technique into a stereo
pair using Gain, Width, Rotation, and Asymmetry controls, as well as
Bass Shelving and bypass functions for both the Mid and Side signals.
