Sony Electronics has announced a trio of products designed to expand the capabilities of the DMX-R100 digital audio mixer. The three new units for the mixer include the SIU-100 system interface unit, the SIU-RM101 remote control and the DMBK-S101 8 channel microphone pre-amp board.

"The SIU-100 I/O system interface unit can significantly expand the DMX-R100 digital console's analog and digital I/O capabilities for studio and live performance applications," said Terry Murphy, marketing manager for Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Production Systems Division.

Expedites Shared Resources

In the studio environment, a single SIU-100 unit can expand the DMX-R100 digital audio mixer's digital I/O capability to up to 72 digital channels in AES/EBU, TDIF or ADAT formats. A single SIU-100 device allows sharing resources with two DMX-R100 console-equipped control rooms. Either control room can access the common I/O in the SIU located in the common studio. Conversely, two SIU-100s positioned on different stages can provide audio feeds to a single DMX-R100 console.

Reduces Interference and Heavy Cable Requirements

In a live application, the SIU-100 used as a stage box could provide 48 remotely controlled microphone inputs and eight outputs for monitors. The SIU-100 unit can be connected to the mix position with up to 300 meters of fiber optic cable. The SIU-100 device facilitates placing the mic preamps close to the microphones to reduce the potential for interference on sensitive mic lines.

In addition to its use with the DMX-R100 console the, SIU-100 device is also ideal for stand-alone applications including analog-to-analog stage box applications or for use as a rack of remote controlled mic pre amps that could output AES directly to a workstation.

Features of the system interface unit include:

  • PC/MAC Ethernet or Front Panel Control
  • Eight (8) slots to accommodate all DMX-R100 option boards
  • Extensive format converter function (Analog, AES/EBU, TDIF, ADAT, MADI)
  • 160ch X 160ch audio routing matrix
  • Up to 100 snapshots, memory/recall
  • Redundant power supply option
  • Various sync modes: Video HD & SD, Word Clock & AES

DMBK-S101 8ch Mic Pre Amp Board

The DMBK-S101 is a new 8ch mic pre amp board for the SIU-100 system interface unit offering the outstanding sound quality of the DMX-R100 console.

Features include:

  • Eight balanced microphone inputs
  • Remote 48 V Phantom On/Off and Pad On/Off for each channel
  • All parameters can be set up from:
    • The SIU-100 front panel
    • By PC/MAC Ethernet control
    • The SIU-RM101 remote control unit.
  • Equipped with DMBK-S101 boards, a SIU-100 unit can function as a stage box or I/O expansion for systems, which require extensive mic inputs.

SIU-RM101 Remote Control Unit

The SIU-RM101 remote control unit is a dedicated remote control unit for the DMBK-S101 8 channel mic pre amp board. Connected to the SIU-100 unit, it provides familiar physical knobs and buttons, which benefit from the DMX-R100 console's user-friendly interface. The unit supports quick, direct operations and clearly displays the status for each channel.

The SIU-RM101 is capable of being daisy chained up to seven units to control 56 channels simultaneously or one unit can be paged to control multiple DMBK-S101 boards. The unit can remotely control the SIU-100's pre amp boards from up to 300 meters via RS-422.

All three products are scheduled to be available next February. The suggested list prices are $3,425 for the SIU-100, $2,275 for the SIU-RM101, and $2,175 for the DMBK-S101.
