to offer six-channel full-resolution audio encoding October 9, 2002
In conjunction with the 113th AES Convention, Syntrillium Software is previewing its audio editing software's support for the Microsoft Windows Media 9 Series platform, and specifically the new Windows Media Audio 9 Professional codec that is the first to enable Web-based delivery of six-channel surround sound with full-spectrum, full-resolution audio.
With its support for this new Windows Media codec, Syntrillium's popular Cool Edit Pro 2.0 audio recording, editing and mixing application will for the first time offer an easy and affordable way to encode 5.1 audio channels to a single Windows Media Audio stream at a variety of bit resolutions and sampling rates, including 24 bit/96kHz full-resolution audio.
"The availability of WMA 9 Professional is a milestone in the evolution of desktop audio, and we are very pleased to be working with Microsoft in the rollout of this impressive new technology," said Bob Ellison, President, Syntrillium Software. "Microsoft's innovation makes authoring and distributing true multi-channel surround sound a widespread reality for the first time, and Syntrillium's mission is to give authors the power to utilize Windows Media 9 Series as soon as possible with Cool Edit."
"Cool Edit Pro is one of the world's most widely used audio editing applications, so we're pleased that Syntrillium has so quickly embraced our latest audio technology," said Jonathan Usher, director of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft Corp. "Cool Edit Pro 2.0's support for Windows Media 9 Series is exactly the type of innovation we want to enable among developers via our groundbreaking Windows Media 9 Series platform."
