Mackie Designs Inc. added a new subwoofer to its line of Active Studio Monitors with the introduction of the 950-watt, 15-inch HRS150 (US $2,499 MSRP). The HRS150, which joins the HRS120 subwoofer announced earlier this year, is meant to provide a higher level of output for more demanding low-end mixes including house, hip hop and rap music. The HRS150 is also for 5.1 or 7.1 surround monitoring systems in mid- to large-sized recording studios or for high-end home theater systems. The THX PM3 certified HRS150 boasts a 950-watt low distortion amplifier powering a 15-inch RCF Precision transducer that is accompanied by two side-firing 12-inch passive radiators. All this is housed in an ultra robust cabinet constructed of 3/4-inch MDF on all sides with 1-inch MDF on bottom and 1 1/4-inch MDF on top. Internal bracing keeps the cabinet rigid at even at "full tilt boogie" volumes. This combination allows the HRS150 to achieve a tight and accurate bass response at even the highest output-playing as low as 19 Hz and providing output to 123 dB. All audio inputs on the HRS150 use both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors for easier linkage with professional and consumer gear. Also provided are a 1/4-inch TS footswitch input and a 1/4-inch TS footswitch key closure output. The power amplifier module includes a power LED, sub defeat LED and an input sensitivity control.
