At AES, Benchmark Media Systems announced the ADC1, a two-channel, 24-bit, 192kHz analog-to-digital converter with two microphone preamplifiers. The ADC1 has line, instrument and microphone input settings. THD+N is a low -110 dB (0.0003%) measured with 40 dB of gain. A one-dB noise figure is maintained with gains as low as + 30 dB. Front panel level controls provide overall input gain adjustments between -3 and +65 dB without the use of an input attenuator. The mic-preamps have fully balanced t/4" TRS patch capability. Hence, the preamp may operate independently from the converter and vice-versa. External processing such as special filters, compressor/limiters, or M/S encoder-decoders may easily be inserted into the signal path. The 24-bit main outputs have sample rates are 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, and 192kHz. The main output is simultaneously on XLR, BNC, and Toslink connectors. Output format choices include: AES, S/PDIF and ADAT. A simultaneous, fully independent, secondary output provides 44.1 or 48-kHz output with switch selectable 16 or 24-bit word-lengths. This output is intended for safety backup recordings. The ADC1 has its own internal, international, toroidal power supply. Volume shipments of the ADC 1 are expected in December. The price of the ADC 1 is $1795. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.benchmarkmedia.com/.
