NHTPro Announces M-80 Studio Tracking Monitor

October 15, 2003

At AES, NHTPro announced a new tracking monitor specifically designed for studio professionals requiring a powerful speaker with substantial output.

The M-80, which will be available in Q1 '04 at a price of $1,400 per monitor, includes a 300 Watt, single rack-space amplifier to power its two (2) 8" long-throw woofers, two (2) 2" aluminum dome midrange drivers, and single 1" aluminum dome tweeter. The cabinet constructed of 3/4" medium density fiberboard (MDF), measures 10" x 22.5" x 14" (H/W/D), and weighs 38 lbs.

Maximum Sound, Flexible Placement NHTPro's M-80 incorporates the best of the company's design acumen in one tracking monitor. With a maximum output of 120dB per channel and frequency range of 35Hz – 25 kHz, power is distributed across five drivers, resulting in consistent SPL that is maintained at consistently high levels – a necessity during prolonged tracking sessions.

The M-80's cabinet is internally laminated and braced to maximize structural rigidity and reduce misleading reverberations and other unwelcome characteristics. A solid aluminum heatsink "wonder bar" provides high power handling while maintaining very low distortion. The highly adaptable cabinet allows for horizontal or vertical placement on console meter bridges and speaker stands, in addition to being mounted on a wall, installed in a cabinet, etc.

The M-80 is sold with the dedicated M-80 300-Watt monaural amplifier, measuring 2.125" (H) x 17" (W) x 11.5" (D).

S-80 Powered Subwoofer

The matching S-80 powered subwoofer ($1,400 per system) provides bottom end. The cabinet, which measures 22" (H) x 13 1/2" (W) x 16.65" (D), houses two (2) 12" aluminum cone, high excursion woofers, facing out from either side of the 3/4" MDF cabinet. Subsequently, the S-80 can be placed near cabinets or walls without affecting performance.

The opposing drivers eliminate cabinet vibration typically caused by high level, low frequencies, especially critical when tracking bass-heavy music and movie soundtracks. Each driver is crafted to reduce heat buildup, and therefore distortion, due in part to the way NHTPro engineers create a heatsink by attaching the aluminum cones to their respective aluminum formers.

The S-80 powered subwoofer system includes a single rack-space 250 Watt monaural amplifier and separate, single rack-space external crossover. In particular, the crossover can operate as either a single channel (mono) or two-channel (stereo) unit via a switch located on the rear panel. When in stereo mode, it allows the addition of a second subwoofer ($1,000 per additional sub) without the expense of an additional crossover. Controls and features are found on both the front and rear panels.

Both the M-80 and S-80 will be available direct from the manufacturer, beginning in March 2004.
