ADC2 Stereo Analog to Digital Converter from Weiss

October 15, 2003

The ADC2 is the latest addition to the Gambit Series of digital audio processors by Weiss. The successor of the ADC1 unit sports 24-bit, 192kHz converters.

"We made the ADC2 for all those engineers who do not want to compromise sonic quality and who like the flexibility of a unit, which is with its Firewire interface ready for modern on-location recording." Says Daniel Weiss of Weiss Engineering. "Special attention has been given to the analog input stage, the clocking (low jitter) and the signal processing part."

The analog front end is kept balanced from the input to the converter chip. A mic preamp comes as a standard feature.

The digital signal can be processed with a peak limiter, gain potentiometer and POW-R dithering. A variety of output interfaces makes life easier. Available are single and dual wire AES/EBU, S/PDIF and Firewire. Synchronisation can be internal at all standard sampling rates up to 192kHz or external via AES/EBU or Wordsync. The AES/EBU sync input can also serve as a digital input to the signal processing part of the ADC2, i.e. the ADC2 can serve as peak limiter or POW-R dithering unit for digital signals.

Large bar graph meters show input level, output level and limiter gain reduction. A numeric readout indicates input sensitivity, DSP gain and limiter threshold.
