EAW Shows Element Series Loudspeakers at AES

October 28, 2004EAW is using this year's AES Convention to show for the first time in the United States their newly introduced Element Series of all-weather loudspeakers, designed to combine the audio performance with the most robust environmental protection: IEC 60529 and MilSpec 810 ratings.
Key to this breakthrough is a new acoustically inert yet waterproof enclosure material: high-impact polypropylene with 40-percent calcium carbonate. Shaped into sophisticated enclosures with few or no parallel surfaces, this new material makes the Element Series sonically indistinguishable from EAW's laminated Baltic birch enclosures, according to the company.
The LM60 includes a soft-dome tweeter on a Waveguide Plate and a 6.5-inch woofer. The LM80 pairs a Waveguide Plate-loaded compression driver with dual 6.5-inch woofers. A perforated steel grill backed with open cell 60ppi foam protects the drivers. An optional 10,000 pores to the inch stainless steel water barrier is also available. A further option for extreme conditions is a waterproof input panel: the standard recessed phenolic panel with barrier strip inputs is covered by an 1/8-inch aluminum plate with waterproof gland-seal nuts for the input cables, secured to the enclosure by stainless steel screws and a waterproof gasket.
