Cycling '74 has announced distribution of Kroonde Gamma, a wireless, high-speed, high-precision data-acquisition hardware system dedicated to real-time applications. Developed in France by La Kitchen, the Kroonde can be used for live performance of dance, music, theater and other interactive applications using embedded sensors.
The Kroonde provides a solution to the problem of adapting to changing sensor technology and evolving software. New sensors can easily be added to the mix of existing industry-standard 0-5 volt sensors. The Kroonde can communicate with software using MIDI or via Ethernet using Open Sound Control. There are connections for 16 sensors with 10-bit precision. The sensor data is communicated wirelessly at 914Mhz to the main unit, which can be connected to multiple computers over a high bandwidth Ethernet connection.
Features include:
16 analog sensors (2 connectors with 8 sensors)
- Precision: 10 bits per sensor
- Frequencies: 433Mhz or 914 MHz (USA)
- Transmission of UDP data from sensors to one or several computers with high bandwidth Ethernet (10MB/s), Open Sound Control or FUDI protocol. MIDI output.
Ethernet Transmission speed
- 8 sensors -> each value is updated every 5 ms
- 16 sensors -> each value is updated every 9 ms
869 or 914 MHz
- 8 sensors -> each value is updated every 9 ms
- 16 sensors -> each value is updated every 17 ms
- Effective HF range: 100 feet in a difficult environment, 300 feet outside
System requirements: Max/MSP/Jitter on OS X or Windows XP. MIDI interface and driver for MIDI connection. Crossover cable and Ethernet connector for Ethernet operation. Open Sound Control objects installed into the Max environment.
Pricing and Availability: The Kroonde interface is available directly from Cycling '74 for US $1495 and La Kitchen's introductory set of eight sensors (five different kinds) is available for US $995. La Kitchen produces over 20 different types of sensors that can be special-ordered from Cycling '74.
