Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems Division announced the PC-1N Series networked power amplifiers. Five new models represent an upgrade to the current PC Series line, and are designed to deliver a combination of high-output power and extremely efficient operation for any fixed or mobile sound reinforcement application. The new entries offer excellent linear power, low distortion, refined hardware designs, full networking options and superb, uncolored audio quality.

Designed for maximum flexibility, the PC-1N Series provides three output modes. Normal Stereo Mode routes separate input signals to independent channels with L/R signal control; Parallel Mode routes a single input to two independent channels with L/R signal control; and Bridged Mono Mode provides the highest power output.

Models PC2001N, PC3301N, PC4801N, PC6501N and PC9501N deliver respective power outputs of 200, 315, 475, 650 and 925-watt power per channel into 8-Ohm loads (20Hz to 20kHz) and bridged mono channel outputs of 1000 to 4600 watts. Total Harmonic Distortion is < 0.5%. Model PC9501N is equipped with two power supplies, which will ensure optimum channel separation.

A truly networked system can be created by integrating the PC-1N Series with the Yamaha NHB32-C Network Hub Bridge, ACU16-C Amplifier Control Unit and manager software (for Windows).

A single ACU16-C is capable of monitoring a variety of critical functions for up to 32 separate PC-1N amplifiers using a PC via RS-232C or USB. The ACU16-C communicates to amplifiers via an RS-485 buss with CAT-5 cable, and uses Cobranet as its input. By adding the NHB32-C Network Hub/Bridge, users can monitor and control the entire system using Cobranet connections, and may also use the ACU16-C as a high-quality 24-bit DA converter.

The lightweight (under 29 lbs.) PC-1N Series features a newly-designed switching regulator and exceptionally stable power supply that will deliver more efficiently regulated voltage and eliminate fluctuations in output level. Using a new generation of Yamaha's proprietary EEEngine and new MOSFET circuitry, amplifiers maintain efficiency, low current draw and reduced heat. Dual radiator heat-sinks positioned adjacent to the power transistors will absorb circuit board vibration, while dual variable-speed cooling fans provide airflow through the heat-sink assembly as well as to the center of the unit. Upgraded on-board limiter circuits provide optimum protection against hard clipping.

Each channel contains a 31-position input attenuator and high-pass filter (< 20Hz, 12dB/octave). The 2RU designs include front-panel ten-point LED meters, plus power/stand-by, protection, temperature, remote and level indicators. Each channel contains both professional balanced XLR and Euroblock input connections, and 5-pole binding-post and Speakon output connectors. Dual RJ45 networking terminals are included for networking purposes.

PC-1N amplifiers are now manufactured to meet the requirements of the EU RoHS Directive, which restricts the use of certain hazardous materials in electrical and electronic equipment. All products will be available in the first quarter of 2005, and include protective security covers.
