Nautilus Master Technology introduced NEMO, the Nautilus Extended Monitor Options series of monitor controllers at Winter NAMM. Designed for pro to home studios, the flagship model DMC-8 tops the four individual units in the series. All four units offer Discrete Class-A circuitry.

The NEMO series opens the door to higher quality mixes due to front-panel calibration controls which allow easy, instantaneous level-matching with any source. All four units allow the user to A-B their mix with commercial CD/SACD's/previous mixes, etc. and have tone-accurate (not level-dominated) references.

The NEMO DCM-8's retro-style 2-space panel has front panel buttons to select a Stereo Buss Output from a console or Digital Audio Workstation; (2) balanced 2-Track Returns; and a third 2-Track Return (RCA inputs). Each 2-Track Return has it's own precision volume control enabling the user to level-match every source. This is important when A-B'ing a mix with widely varying levels on CDs and SACDs.

Pushbuttons also select Mono, Mute, Dim (with front level control), and Speaker B select (with front level control). Another mastering-style feature is a meter range calibration control for the stereo VU meters, which accurately display all level references.

The increased audio resolution of the NEMO DMC-8 occurs because it selects the Stereo Buss source (from the console or DAW) instead of the standard console monitor-buss circuit path which is layered with additional electronic components that blur the sonic definition.

Nautilus Master Technology is founded by mastering engineer, John Vestman. Contact with many artists, producers and engineers influenced his integration of mastering-style technology in recording studio equipment. The NEMO DMC-8 is also suitable for mastering and production studios that need multiple source selection, level-matching and high-resolution audio.

Using A-B techniques for over 27 years, Vestman has always incorporated audiophile listening systems. The accuracy revealed in these systems translates to the "real world" for his clients. He states, "You develop a sonic 'imprint' by listening to the best commercial albums. The NEMO series gives instantaneous, unprecedented A-B control which keeps your perspective and prevents the comparison from becoming a volume contest. I know many an engineer who endorses A-B methods for better mixes."

While the new concepts in the NEMO DMC-8 are distinctly Vestman's, the electronic design is by Inward Connections. Steve Firlotte's precision circuitry is coupled with the SPA690 discrete amp block electronics of John Hall, renowned designer of early Langevin products. The highest quality components are utilized throughout (no surface-mount components), precision pots, all in a rock-solid enclosure, making the unit a born classic.

The NEMO DMC-8 includes balanced and unbalanced Stereo Buss inputs, (2) Stereo Buss Thru outputs to recorders, a balanced Source-Select Output to additional modules, Stereo Buss pad, RCA input pad, voltage selector, optional remote, and dim logic-in for external talkback control from a console command. It also includes a high-end power cord (retail - $365.00) by Virtual Dynamics, which enhances the definition even more. "You can hear the difference the power cord makes." states Vestman. "It basically improves the power supply, and thus the sonic performance."
