NHTPro featured the newly designed, single-channel M-20 system at AES, featuring an updated cabinet and companion single-channel, single rack space 250 Watt control amplifier. Scheduled to ship in November, the NHT M-20, which replaces the A-20, is designed for both professional and project sound mixers immersed in multichannel environments. The M-20 single-channel design replaces both the popular two-channel A-20 (L/R) and companion C-20 (center/surround) models. The M-20 features a newly designed gun-metal gray cabinet that adds additional bracing around the woofer and provides improved cabinet geometry for surround soundfields. As a direct descendant of the A-20, the M-20 utilizes the same sophisticated drive units, including a long-throw 6.5" woofer and a 1" aluminum dome tweeter, both of which are shielded The aluminum dome tweeter relies on a microfabric surround at the edge termination and ferro-fluid in the voice coil gap for proper damping, removing all traces of the "ringing" associated with typical metal diaphragm designs. In addition, the tweeter's "under-hung" motor design reduces voice coil mass to ensure linear high frequency response and low distortion – even at the highest listening levels. The woofer's treated paper curvilinear cone design exceeds the rigidity of plastic cone designs without the inherent break-up modes experienced with the latter. NHT's engineers minimized cone-related standing waves by mitering the edge of the cone at the surround joint. Included with each M-20 monitor is a single-rack-space, Class A/B 250 Watt control amplifier with front panel optimization controls (boundary proximity, distance proximity, input sensitivity) placed within reach of the listening position. A unique system status display illustrates AC line voltage, heat sink temperature, or average real-time sound pressure level. Similar to other NHT Pro Audio studio monitors, the M-20 will be available direct from the company in North America, and through its international distribution partner MI7 in the U.K., Germany, Spain, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Though the suggested retail price won't be finalized until the product ships, it is expected to be approximately $1,000 per channel, including the M-20 monitor and amplifier.
