Hot on the heels of the launch of its Version 4 combined software and hardware upgrade for the D5 Live at PLASA06, DiGiCo has now also announced Version 4 for the DS-00 and D4, which had its first showing on Booth 1202 at the 121st AES Convention.

This particular release of V4 brings DiGiCo's post-production and broadcast consoles up to date and incorporates its new MIDI Control.

DUI allows the user to assign a console's banks to control external MIDI devices or DAWs, such as Pro Tools or Nuendo, by utilising hardware on the control work surface such as faders, pans or mutes, giving access to all basic controls, including automation, without moving away from the console.

Blocks of eight channels at a time can be called up on the console's designated touch screen to view keys for navigation of the external device - automation scope buttons, auto modes for Pro Tools, etc - and allows the use of record buttons to arm the tracks on the DS-00.

The window section provides easy one touch between edit and mix windows to bring up transport controls on the DAW. The channel display shows what the channel is so that whatever the DAW (e.g. Pro Tools) you will know exactly what you are controlling. It is also possible to have external control of MIDI, such as external reverb devices, via the console's work surface and all parameters can be recalled via the console's Snapshots section.

"We feel this is a very important stage in DiGiCo's development," says DiGiCo Senior Sales Director James Gordon. "The Version 4 software and hardware upgrade seen at PLASA means that you can have a desk from the D5 range that's up to four years old, but add Version 4 and you will get a whole range of new features and enhancements, ensuring your DiGiCo console is - as always - right at the cutting edge of sound technology, flexibility and ease of use.

Version 4 will be on general release in early 2007.
