Glyph will demonstrate FireWire 800 versions of the GT Series at the AES Show in New York. FireWire 800 removable drives and enclosures are 100% compatible with the original FireWire 400 GT Series. The new FW800 versions use Oxford's 924 chip with Seagate's SATA drive technology, and feature bus speeds roughly double that of FireWire 400.
New products to be shown at AES include the GT Key FW800 hot-swappable hard drive, available with up to 750GB capacity with a 1TB version coming soon. The new GT Key uses SATA drive technology incorporating Native Command Queuing (NCQ), an algorithm that reschedules and reorders commands, improving drive efficiency. In an audio environment, NCQ can improve the number of audio tracks that can be played, often by as much as 15% over existing PATA drives using FireWire 400.
At AES, Glyph will also show FireWire 800 versions of the GT 051 tabletop hot-swap enclosure, and the GT 103, a three-bay single-space rack. The new FW800 versions and existing FW400 versions of the series use the same hot-swap technology, therefore a FireWire 400 GT Key is forward-compatible with a FireWire 800 chassis, and a FireWire 800 GT Key is backward-compatible with a FireWire 400 chassis. Upgrading to FW800 can be seamless.
The new products include everything you've come to expect in the GT Series. Constructed with durable stainless steel, enclosures have internal power supplies and quiet fans, and tabletops are rack mountable with an optional rack kit. The GT 103 features a front-panel accessible FireWire 400 convenience port for connecting any FireWire 400 devices while the unit is racked, eliminating the need for a FW400 to FW800 converter cable. For additional protection during transporting, the GT 051 tabletop enclosure and GT Key hot-swap drives ship in hard-shell plastic carrying cases.
Backed by Glyph's legendary service and technical support, GT Series enclosures are covered under warranty for three years. Hard drives come standard with an additional Overnight Advance Replacement warranty in the first year.
