PRESS RELEASE

PMC USA Demonstrating BB5 XBD-A Reference Monitoring System at AES Convention

October 09, 2008

At the 125th AES Convention PMC will spotlight the "ultimate-performance" BB5 XBD-A Large-Scale Reference Monitoring System, which offers extended bass response from PMC's transmission-line design. Partnered with the highly adaptable electronics and cabinet variants BB5 XBD-A provides seamless integration into a free-standing or soffit configuration without loss of performance. Also to be seen: the PMC-designed Digidesign RM1 and RM2 Reference Monitor Series cabinets. PMC's custom engineered Advanced Transmission Line technology (ATL™) provides high-resolution, wide-bandwidth signal response across the complete product range.

"PMC monitors have extended bass response and room control by virtue of the PMC transmission line design," considers Maurice Patist, PMC USA's President of Sales and Marketing. "Partnered with the highly adaptable electronics and cabinet variants, the BB5 XBD-A allows seamless integration into a free-standing or soffit configuration without loss of performance. The twin BB5 XBD-A cabinets can either be stacked — which is preferable — or placed in a side-by-side layout."

The BB5 XBD-A's active electronics are the result of a long-time collaboration between amplifier manufacture Bryston and PMC; the result is unrivalled quality and reliability. "The design philosophies of both companies are akin," Patist offers, "so the synergy could not be a better one. Bryston have no automated mass-production lines, no robotics, no moving assembly lines and every Bryston product is handcrafted by people who believe they are building the Ultimate Amplifier."

BB5 XBD-A systems are used in a number of leading recording, broadcast, mastering and post-production facilities around the world, including Athens Concert Hall, BBC Maida Vale, which is the Corporation's prestigious radio music recording complex, and BBC Hippodrome. "The Golders Green Hippodrome has been home to the BBC Concert Orchestra since 1972," Patist recalls. "An extensive technical refit of the control room included the addition of an active BB5 XBD monitoring system in natural ash."

The free-standing BB5 cabinets are not only impressive to look at, but are capable of reproducing the huge scale of orchestral performances with pin-point imagery. The sub-17 Hz, three-way system features dual 15-inch bass units that sit at the mouth of a large 15-foot, folded-transmission line bass-loading system. The PMC-built soft-dome mid- and high-frequency drivers complete the driver compliment. All drive units are strictly controlled by individual, ultra low distortion, PMC-Series Bryston amplification and electronic crossovers that are housed externally. The sum of the parts creates the highest quality, no compromise, reference main monitoring system that is available.

PMC is also supplying BB5-XBD-A Large-Scale Reference Surround Monitoring Systems to the Audio Engineering Society for playback during the AES Seminar Program and judging of the Annual Student Competition. "PMC's continued support of both the AES Exhibition and Technical Program was fuelled by requests from the Society's Technical Council, who have insisted that PMC should supply the ultimate in high-resolution playback," Patist stresses.

In addition, at a specially organized event within its Demo Room 212, PMC will use a BB5-XBD-A Monitoring System to demonstrate an array of the highest quality, cutting-edge surround mixes. Tickets for this must-hear event will be available at PMC's booth during show hours.
