September 26, 1998Allen & Heath unveiled its latest generation of MixWizards at the 105th AES Convention. The lineup includes the completely new WZ12:2DX and the updated WZ16:2DX and WZ14:4:2+.
The WZ12:2DX is the most affordable MixWizard yet, offering eight mic/line inputs and two dual stereo inputs. Like all MixWizard consoles, the WZ12:2DX has four-band, semi-parametric EQ, six auxes on individual controls, 100mm faders throughout and the QCC (Quick Change Connector) system, allowing easy desk, rack or flight case mounting. Allen & Heath has also teamed up with DigiTech to offer built-in dual stereo FX processing. There are 16 factory loaded preset buttons, plus a MIDI socket for footswitch control and program change capability and editing of presets via an external computer.
The WZ16:2DX is an upgraded version of the popular WZ16:2 console. The new model boasts metal jacks, illuminating channel ON switches and the same DigiTech FX capability as the WZ12:2DX. The WZ16:2DX has 16 mic/line inputs and two stereo returns, making it suitable for stereo PA, live recording, keyboard mixing, submixing and stage monitor mixing. An AB output provides a second pre/post-fader LR or mono sum, or a local stereo monitor output.
The WZ14:4:2+ replaces the WZ14:4:2, again adding metal jacks and channel ON LEDs, plus a 1kHz oscillator / pink noise generator for easier setup and individually-switchable phantom power. WZ14:4:2+ offers four groups, ten mic/line inputs, two fully featured stereo inputs and four stereo returns. The console is targeted at a wide range of recording and live environments, where its dual function mode switches allow it to be configured as a front-of-house or monitor desk, or as a combination of both.
