LEM by Generalmusic Introduces Sound Pressure Series Portable Speakers

September 26, 1998

LEM, Generalmusic's professional audio division, introduces a range of compact, multipurpose speaker systems known as the Sound Pressure Series. Despite their diminutive size and lightweight design, Sound Pressure loudspeakers provide a highly efficient, impressive sound that makes them ideal for portable PA setups, live/studio monitoring and sound contracting use.

Three models comprise the line-the SP Live, SP Media and SP Sub. Each model is equipped with a powerful internal amplifier allowing efficient multi-way systems to be easily set up (satellites + subwoofer). The SP Live and SP Media models are also available in passive versions, which are useful for permanent install applications with centralized amplification and other situations not requiring powered speakers.

Constructed from polypropylene reinforced with mineral fibers, SP cabinets are exceptionally sturdy and light. Their stylishly molded European design makes them a perfect choice for settings where integration with the environment is important. Enclosures are coated with a tough, scratch -resistant paint, while metal grilles protect the speakers. A series of dedicated optional mounting accessories is also available for setting up the three cabinets in a wide variety of configurations, or installing them on walls, ceilings, conventional microphone stands and more.

The active versions of the SP Live and SP Media each incorporate a 90-watt internal amplifier. Used individually or in combination with the active SP Sub, which is equipped with a 350-watt amplifier, they can provide an amplification system with an exceptional power/dimension ratio. All active models are equipped with anti-clipping circuits for the amplifiers as well as high-quality professional connectors (Neutrik combo, XLR-M and RCA pin).

The SP Live (red label) features a wide-range 6.5-inch double cone speaker. This particular component allows the user to obtain a high level of efficiency (up to 119dB max SPL), especially in the midrange, making the speaker particularly well suited for live PA, vocal/instrument monitoring and amplification in public spaces such as malls, conference halls, hotels and restaurants.

The SP Media (blue label) is equipped with a silk dome tweeter mounted on an elliptical waveguide (EWTTM Technology, patented by LEM) and a 6.5-inch acoustic suspension woofer. The unique elliptical shape of the EWT horn provides more efficient angular diffusion of the mid-high frequencies compared to conventional horns. Furthermore, the absence of corners and parallel surfaces minimizes the distortion caused by diffraction and reflection allowing a much more accurate "real" sound to be produced without color, even at the highest power levels. The unique configuration delivers outstanding sonic performance and a wide frequency response (70Hz to 20kHz) ideal for high level monitoring in live performances, multimedia applications and home recordings, as well as the for the amplification of music in public places, clubs and AN systems.

The SP Sub Active is a subwoofer featuring a 12-inch high-power bass reflex speaker coupled with an acoustic lens system that considerably increases the efficiency. The Sub is equipped with a 350-watt amplifier and crossover control (from 80 to 250Hz). When paired with active SP Live or SP Media systems, the Sub rounds out a small but incredibly powerful sound system with extended response down to 50Hz. These speaker systems are well suited for a wide range of applications, from small clubs and portable PAs to small and medium scale permanent installations.

Suggested U.S. retail pricing on the Sound Pressure cabinets is as follows:

  • Live Active $300.00
  • Live Passive $140.00
  • Media Active $340.00
  • SP Media Passive $180.00
  • Sub (active only) $995.00
