Opcode, Gibson, and CNMAT Announce Technology Partnership September 26, 1998
Opcode Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gibson Musical Instruments, announces the forging of a music technology development alliance with the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT) located in Berkeley, CA. A satellite of the University of California-Berkeley Department of Music, CNMAT is known throughout the world for its ground-breaking research and development in the field of music technology. The collaboration is expected to result in new hardware and software products to be released by Opcode Systems and Gibson Musical Instruments as early as the second quarter of 1999.
"It is truly a pleasure to work with Gibson and Opcode since both companies are extremely dedicated to advancing the current state of music technology," states David Wessel, Director of CNMAT. "It is of great importance to us that our technological innovations see the light of day and this development alliance will make that possible."
"All three organizations share a vision of the role that technology will play in the future of music composition and performance," notes Chris Halaby, President of Opcode Systems. "The products which result from this effort will move both Gibson and Opcode into new market areas, while providing musicians with more expressive tools and much greater control over the music-making process."
