Shure DP11EQ Dynamics Processor with EQ and Delay

September 26, 1998

The computer-controlled DP11EQ from Shure Brothers Inc. combines the digital power of a comprehensive dynamics controller with parametric equalization and delay, all within an enclosure occupying only half of a single rackspace.

Featured among its multifaceted dynamic processing capabilities are automatic gain control functions, a gate, an expander, compressor, limiter, and a no-overshoot peak limiter. Up to nine bands of parametric equalization with high and low cut/shelving filters complement the package, along with up to 1.3 seconds of delay ideally suited for loudspeaker alignment or use with remote loudspeaker arrays.

Operable at line level in balanced or unbalanced modes, the DP11EQ is capable of precisely controlling every aspect of a signal's dynamic range. For monitoring this unprecedented level of control, the unit is equipped with a transfer function display within its Windows-based control interface. This graphic representation of the signal path's dynamic range allows users to chart the effects of dynamic processing as it is introduced. The transfer function display is also equipped with built-in input and output meters. With these meters, thresholds and ratios can be established by simply pointing and clicking.

All active settings can be stored within the DP11EQ's nonvolatile memory; additional scenes may be stored aboard the user's PC for later recall. As a safeguard against tampering, the unit's software can be used to lockout the front panel controls before the host computer is disconnected. Settings can also be saved to disk or printed out for backup and archival purposes.

Thanks to Shure's proprietary ShureLink (TM) interface, up to 16 DP11EQ units can be controlled by a single computer. or they can operate within a network of other Shure PC-controlled components such as the DFR11EQ feedback reducer and UA888 UHF wireless networking interface. Each DP11EQ comes with a single 5-pin DIN cable for linking, and has a suggested retail price of $800 (USD).
