Transamerica Audio Group, the U.S. distributor for Drawmer Distribution - U.K., announces a major analog product introduction from Drawmer. Based on the acclaimed 1960, Drawmer and Mercenary Audio have collaborated to develop the "Drawmer 1960, Mercenary Audio Edition."

The original 1960, introduced in 1983, was a reliable and predictable solid-state/tube dynamics processor with mic pre's and tube compressors. After 16 years, it remains a studio staple, with artists as diverse as William Orbit to Dolly Parton, Bryan Adams, Eric Clapton and Madonna still recording with the 1960 today.

Unwilling to rest on its laurels, Drawmer has sought ways to improve on the 1960 by seeking out some of its severest critics - a highly unusual approach in this industry. Fletcher of Mercenary Audio came to the top of list. With his long history as a recording engineer, producer and audio dealer, Fletcher has worked with a wide range of analog gear.

"The 1960 is still used by a lot of my clients," says Fletcher, "but it was not the 'sound' I was personally looking for. We use a lot vintage classics here - original sounds not replicated by any currently manufactured devices. I wanted something different, something that holds up against the best of the best in tracking and mixdown. The result is a unit delivering stunning detail and clarity."

Retaining the concept of twin solid-state mic pre's, the 1960 uses a whole new topology for lower noise and improved clarity. The tube compressors have been reworked to provide greater amounts of gain reduction before hearing the negative artifacts of compression. Applications range from a sole front end for studio microphones, to a tracking compression tool, to a 'stereo mix buss compressor'.
