Mediatrix Releases The Audiotrix 3D-XG

The first sound card to feature Yamaha XG MIDI Technology

September 9, 1997

Mediatrix Peripherals is now shipping the Audiotrix 3D-XG sound card for the PC platform at a suggested retail price of $295 US. The Audiotrix 3D-XG is a full featured, professional quality sound card offering 16-bit, full-duplex digital audio. It also offers Yamaha XG wavetable synthesis with expanded sound effects processing, including Yamaha's proprietary 3D YMersion sound.

As the first sound card to feature Yamaha's newest XG MIDI technology, the Audiotrix 3D-XG represents the best sound solution for musicians who want a full-fledged wavetable synthesizer inside their PC. The XG synthesizer of the Audiotrix 3D-XG provides an incredible 676 voices, and 21 drum kits while supplying 32-note polyphony and 16-part multi-timbrality. On-board effects include reverb (11 types), chorus (11 types) and other variations (42 types).

The Audiotrix 3D-XG also includes an 18-bit DAC for MIDI instrument rendering. This produces superb sound quality equaling that of professional studio MIDI gear designed for the most demanding musicians. The output of the Audiotrix 3D-XG is processed through an on-board digital signal processor (DSP) and digital effects can be applied to MIDI data as well as to other output sources (Mic, Wave, CD audio) independently. The results provide unparalleled sound quality and flexibility.

"XG allows for a new level of musical production quality, both in stand-alone products as well as in computers, and Yamaha is making this technology available to everyone through these products," said Avery Burdette, product manager, digital musical instruments, Yamaha Corporation of America. "XG technology gives users more control, more voices and more possibilities to make their sound more expressive and dramatic."

The Audiotrix 3D-XG is not just an XG wavetable synthesizer, however. The Audiotrix 3D-XG couples an XG synthesizer with an Audiotrix 3D sound board and therefore also provides genuine Yamaha FM synthesis and high-quality, 16-bit full-duplex digital audio. Other features include legacy Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Pro compatibility, advanced audio control with extended bass and treble control, and 3D surround sound processing by Yamaha's YMersion sound.

"The Audiotrix 3D-XG represents the ultimate sound board for the computer musician," says John Moran, President of Mediatrix Peripherals. "The Audiotrix 3D-XG combines high quality digital audio with the best MIDI technology available while preserving legacy audio compatibility for playing games in a DOS environment."

Since the Audiotrix 3D-XG is based on the Audiotrix 3D, the extensive cross platform application and driver software package for the 3D also works seamlessly with the Audiotrix 3D-XG. PC platforms that are supported include Windows (3.1x, 95, NT 3.5x, NT 4.0), OS/2 Warp, Linux, as well as many other versions of Unix. Mediatrix also adds extensive technical support through a team of customer service representatives.

The Audiotrix 3D-XG also includes on-board hardware volume control connectors, which permit OEMs to connect the hardware volume control of the PC directly to the sound card.
