Releases Free Version of Pro Tools Software

31, 1997Starting today, Digidesign distributes Pro Tools PowerMix version 3.4 free on
CD-ROM, providing fully functioning Pro Tools software to north american customers
at absolutely no charge. On a dedicated page of Digidesign's web site (www.digidesign.com)
customers can leave their address and contact information, requesting Free Pro
Tools v3.4 to be sent to them within days. By early 1998, the CD-ROM will become
available world-wide through a number of promotions, including trade shows, product
demonstrations and Digidesign user events. The 'Free Pro Tools' CD-ROM features
Pro Tools PowerMix, software that runs on a Power Macintosh without the need for
additional hardware. Using the analog inputs and outputs of the Macintosh, PowerMix
provides two simultaneous record tracks and up to 16 tracks of playback, 64 virtual
tracks and 2 bands of digital EQ per track. All of Pro Tools' acclaimed editing
features are available. Fully compatible with the Digidesign product line, Pro
Tools Free allows customers to graduate to hardware-based Pro Tools systems as
