May 7, 1999 CreamWare has announced the release of Pulsar SRB, a new expansion board which extends the capabilities of Pulsar systems with the power of four additional SHARC DSPs.

Pulsar SRB is a pure DSP board for use in conjunction with a Pulsar card. It comes without software and provides no I/O facilities of its own. It delivers the equivalent extra processing power of a Pulsar card at a substantially lower price. The additional DSP power permits more Pulsar effects, sound generators and mixing channels to be used at one time, and/or allows the polyphony of Pulsar synthesizers to be increased.

Pulsar SRB occupies a PCI slot and uses a separate S/TDM bus for connection to Pulsar cards or other Pulsar SRBs. Systems can be flexibly configured. The DSP power of a single Pulsar card can be augmented via multiple SRBs, or one SRB can be used to bolster a set of interconnected Pulsar cards. An intelligent load-distribution algorithm in the Pulsar software ensures optimal use of all DSPs in the system at all times.

The use of Pulsar SRB, or of multiple Pulsar boards, requires Pulsar software version 1.12. This software, which adds several other new features, will be available to Pulsar users as a free update in mid-May.

With Pulsar SRB, the DSP power of the Pulsar studio can be scaled very economically to match the needs and budget of the user.

Pulsar SRB will begin shipping on May 11, 1999. The suggested retail price is US$ 998.
