The MegaWolf Romulus and Remus PCI serial port cards provide four (or two)
MiniDIN-8 serial ports and is suitable for use as direct MIDI ports as well
as for printers and modems. It supports all standard serial rates up to 921,600
baud and external clocking.
This card may be used on any Power Macintosh with an available PCI bus slot
and is compatible with all Macintosh "Standard" MIDI Interfaces and
_some_ multiport Interfaces.
Mark of the Unicorn have updated FreeMIDI 1.38 to support these cards. Other
support is in progress and will be announced shortly. For full details see the
new Macintosh MIDI Guide website: www.hinton.demon.co.uk/mac/macmidi.html.
A two port version Remus/2 is also available, but the manufacturer recommends
having as many ports as possible especially on the new G3s minitowers which
no longer have printer or modem serial ports. On Power Macintoshes with enough
PCI slots, e.g. 9600, two Romulus cards will give a capability of 10 direct
MIDI ports with a previously unobtainable timing accuracy.
