Cycling '74 Releases Pluggo 2.0

Cycling '74 releases Pluggo 2.0. Pluggo is now a collection of more than seventy-four audio plug-ins that work with Mac OS sequencers and audio applications that support Steinberg's VST plug-in format. And now Pluggo supports the MOTU Audio System (MAS) format used by Digital Performer.

Pluggo 2.0 also adds MIDI support when used with VST 2.0 and MAS host applications. This means that Pluggo plug-ins can now send and receive MIDI information, and Max/MSP developers can now develop their own MIDI processor plug-ins and virtual MIDI instruments. Two new plug-ins are included with Pluggo 2.0 that demonstrate these features: Laverne, a simple MIDI synthesizer; and M2M, a plug-in that converts MIDI information into modulation data to change the parameters of other plug-ins.

Pluggo 2.0 includes support for host synchronization, a powerful new VST 2.0 feature. A fair number of the existing Pluggo plug-ins have been redesigned to support beat-synchronized parameter changes, sample-accurate tempo sync for a plug-in's modulating LFOs, and tempo-relative settings for plug-in parameters such as delay time.

Also included is a new version of the Plug-in Manager, which lets you use nested folders to organize those plug-ins.

Other new features in Pluggo 2.0 include:
  • MOTU Audio System (MAS) support
  • host synchronization with clients that support it (Digital Performer 2.6 and above, and Cubase 4.1)
  • plug-in MIDI input and output (in Cubase 4.1, input only in Logic 4.1, and Digital Performer)
  • a new data entry method in the plug-in interface, plus typing numbers into certain interfaces in Digital Performer
  • revisions to a number of plug-ins to support synchronization features
  • two new MIDI-based plug-ins, a synthesizer called Laverne and a modulator called M2M that lets you transform MIDI into parameter modulation data
  • revised Max/MSP development materials including five new tutorials (to be released in a final development manual within a few weeks).

This month, you can head on over to www.pluggo.com to read about and download a free copy of beatN, the first Pluggo-the-month for Pluggo 2.0. It's a quick and easy calculator that does the math you'll find yourself needing to do when you immerse yourself in Pluggo 2.0's new host synchronization features -- for figuring tricky tempo, sample, and memory calculations. Nearly one in five of the Pluggo plug-ins have been redesigned to support beat-synchronized parameter changes, sample-accurate tempo sync for a plug-in's modulating LFOs, and tempo-relative settings for plug-in parameters such as delay time. "Trust us - you'll find this really useful" says Cycling '74.

If you're a registered Pluggo user or a Max/MSP owner, you can either download the free Pluggo 2.0 upgrade from our website, or you can use an on-line order form to have the Pluggo 2.0 upgrade with its real printed manual and snappy CD-ROM sent to you for $25 plus shipping. Pluggo is $74 for new users.

Finally, anyone who wants to get into Max/MSP, there's a special offer until the end of the year. If you're a subscriber of the Electronic Music Foundation (EMF), you can get $100 off the price of the Max/MSP bundle until 12/31/99. People who are not subscribers can join for $100 and then receive the discount on their subsequent Max/MSP purchase.
