New Electric Violin from NS Design
March 17, 2001The NS Violin, designed by Ned Steinberger, is now available on a limited production basis. This instrument – available in 4- and 5-string models - has a remarkable tonal range due its innovative Polar pickup system, which is able to selectively capture the string vibration favored for both bow and pizzicato technique. As reviewed by Dean Stein of the DaPonte String Quartet, " The NS Violin offers an ingenious design, with even tone, brilliance and sensitivity. It is beautiful to look at and comfortable to play."
Precise and stable tuning is accomplished entirely behind the bridge, in the manner similar to the fine tuners of an acoustic instrument. The neck has no headstock scroll or friction tuners, so the balance point of the instrument is back near the shoulder to minimize stress and fatigue. The padded shoulder rest is fully adjustable for optimum playing comfort.
The solid-body NS Violin has standard string spacing and scale length facilitate the transition for players accustomed to a traditional acoustic instrument. It also has a removable body segment to provide the correct reference position for the left-hand. The body and neck of the NS Violin are maple, with a figured maple top and ebony fingerboard.
