Soundminer Inc. has announced the release of both Soundminer Ripper and Soundminer Server X, two new products that extend the capabilities of their Soundminer audio file management system.
Soundminer Ripper
With Version 2.3, Soundminer offers audio CD transfer tools that will get your commercial music and sound effect CDs over to your hard drive complete with all tracks and indexes extracted, all waveforms calculated, all sounds "topped and tailed" to first mod of audio, and all the manufacturers database information embedded in the file. Soundminer Ripper is now included with each and every license of Soundminer.
Ripper allows you to choose any combination of 16/24bit, 44.1/48khz and SD2f/AIFF options. Although invisible to the finder, all files contain a special "wrapper" that stores among other things, the long description of file, the manufacturer, category, library, etc. Soundminer has the ability to see all this information. The Soundminer Browser window is shown here with the Filename. Desccription. Source. Time and Channels selected in the Display Options.
The Soundminer Ripper will work on any ATA or SCSI CDROM. All SD2f and AIFF waveforms are completely compatible with Digidesign's Pro tools systems. Many of the commercially available libraries are already supported. More are being added each week. If Soundminer doesn't already support it, call them and it will get added to the cue and posted for all users.
Price -- comes bundled with Soundminer ($795US for both applications with discounts for four or more licenses)
Soundminer Server
Soundminer Server is a dedicated software application that handles all the networking functionality needed in facilities with multiple terminals. It provides automated adminstrative tasking, database serving, traffic management, remote access, and a safe encrypted data stream to protect against intrusions. It supports both Classic OS 9 and OS X, although the sound files themselves can exist on any platform (Mac, NT or Linux servers).
Server X will even run efficently on an iMac running OS X software. In combination with Apple's OS X, Soundminer Server X is capable of detailing several levels of priviledges for each user and Server X's task manager is capable of allowing the entire system to auto-administered. Databases can be regularly maintained and fixed if necessary. User logs are kept by the system so each and every transfer can be detailed. Facility databases can be accessed remotely by any user anywhere in the world. Data streams are protected by a built-in encryption system. Terminals see simple drop boxes for sounds they wish to have added to the system. Server X can then be set to regualrly check for new files and automatically adds them to the database. File integrity checks are performed on the sound file regularly and the system is also capable of rectifying moved or orphaned files.
