PRESS RELEASE

New Rack-Mount Mixer and Signal Distributor for Aviom's A-16

A-16D
January 13, 2003

Aviom has announced a new rack-mounted mixer for the A-16 Personal Monitor Mixing System, the A-16R Personal Mixer, as well as the A-16D A-Net Distributor, designed to distribute the A-Net Signal from either an A-16T Transmitter or another A-16D Distributor.

The A-16R retains all the features of the A-16 Personal Mixer, and adds new connectivity options. There are balanced outputs on the rear panel (with both XLR and 1/4" jacks), stereo balanced insert points, and an auxiliary stereo mix input with a front-panel level control. Also new is the ability to store and recall User Presets via MIDI. There are MIDI In, Out, and Thru jacks on the rear panel of the 1U-high unit. The A-16R can also accept the A-16CS Control Surface as an option.

The A-16CS is a remote controller and editor specifically designed for use with the A-16R. It allows the user to keep the audio output section of their personal monitor rig at the rear of the stage with other devices while retaining the personal control found in the mic stand-mounted A-16 Personal Mixer. It connects to the A-16R's A-Control jack via one Category 5 cable. The front panel layout of the A-16CS Control Surface is the same as the A-16 Personal Mixer.

The new A-16R Personal Mixer expands on the company's Personal Monitor Mixing System concept. It allows the performer to create a custom monitor mix tailored to his/her individual needs. Each A-16R Personal Mixer gives a performer control over channel volume, grouping, pan, stereo spread, and master volume. Users can save and recall up to sixteen custom mixes saved as presets in their A-16R Personal Mixer. The stereo output from all Personal Monitor Mixing System mixers can be used to drive floor wedge monitors, in-the-ear monitors, headphones, or spot monitors.

The A-16R can be used in any combination with the other Personal Monitor Mixing System components, the rack mountable A-16T Transmitter, the A-16D A-Net Distributor, and the table-top or mic stand mounted A-16 Personal Mixer. The Personal Monitor Mixing System uses a proprietary LAN technology called A-Net that was developed by Aviom. A-Net allows the system to transmit sixteen channels of high quality 24bit audio with virtually no latency over a single Category 5 (Cat-5) cable, the same cable you see being used in computer networks. There is no limit to the number of Personal Mixers that can be used in one system. Cable length between components in the system can be as long as 330 feet each (100 meters).

A-16R Personal Mixer Features:

  • Sixteen channel select buttons with dual LEDs
  • Dedicated Recall, Group, Solo, and Mute buttons
  • Sixteen user preset memory locations
  • Pan/Spread control with LED readout
  • Channel volume control with LED level readout
  • Headphone output with volume control
  • Master Volume, Treble and Bass controls
  • Mix In volume control
  • Balanced outputs
  • Stereo/mono switch for rear channel balanced outputs
  • Balanced insert points (stereo)
  • MIDI In, Out, and Thru jacks for preset storage and recall
  • Optional A-16CS remote control surface

The A-16D A-Net Distributor is designed to distribute the A-Net Signal from either an A-16T Transmitter or another A-16D Distributor. Each A-16D accepts one A-Net input signal and provides for eight simultaneous A-Net outputs using Category-5 Cables. The A-16D Distributor eliminates the need to daisy-chain A-Net devices, simplifying stage and studio setups.

The A-16D allows users to connect the A-16 Personal Monitor Mixer's external power supply directly into the A-16D. In this configuration, DC power and the A-Net Signal are both supplied to an A-16 Personal Monitor Mixer over the same Category 5 cable.

Any combination of powered or un-powered A-Net connections can be used. The A-Net signal can be sent to other A-16D A-Net Distributors providing for virtually unlimited expansion. As with all A-Net devices, cable runs of up to 330 feet (100 meters) are possible between devices.

A-16D Features:

  • Easily distribute A-Net from a central location or another A-16D Distributor
  • One A-Net input, eight A-Net outputs
  • Can insert DC power for A-Net devices into the Cat-5 cable
  • 1/2-Rack space footprint
  • A-Net Activity LED on the main input
  • DC Power indicator LEDs on each A-Net output
  • Multiple A-16D Distributors can be used in a system
