Extended-Scale X36 Stick Introduced

X36 10-String Rosewood
(Click for a close-up)
August 25, 2003

With a new 36-inch scale length, "The Stick X36" is not only longer, but also sleeker and more Stick-like in appearance, sound and feel than its 34-inch predecessor. The Stick X36 has more of the classic Stick sound: sharp with a percussive attack and ringing sustain, especially in the lower bass strings.

Stick X36 models are available in dark Indonesian rosewood, reddish padauk and rich golden tarara laminates as well as continuous strand carbon fiber graphite. All models are available at this longer length, including the 8-string Stick Bass, 10-string Stick and 12-string Grand Stick. The Stick X36 can accommodate the entire family of Stick fourth/fifths tunings as well as any custom tuning.

The extra fret toward the nut and headstock increases The Stick's range and provides the player with access to a wider network of chords with bass roots. "The new low fret allows me to transpose most of my songs down by two frets," said Chapman. "My hands gravitate to these lower regions for the room, the resonance and the more spacious sound and feel."

With the added fret the inlaid markers are all moved up one fret, retaining their original positions relative to the bridge. The open low string is now tuned to B instead of C and the low C can now be tapped on the first fret.

Everything that can be adjustable is adjustable making setup and maintenance easier and more straightforward than ever before. These models can later be reconfigured by the owner or by Stick Enterprises to accommodate any pair of tunings. Fully adjustable components include the exposed rear truss rod, the bridge/tailpiece unit, the belt hook, shoulder strap and Flaps Dual Nut Unit.
