Applied Acoustics Systems has announced the official release
of the new String Studio synthesizer for Mac OS X and Windows.
The String Studio synthesizer swaps the traditional oscillator, filter, and envelope pattern for real-life string instrument components. At the core of String Studio lies a new physical
model of strings interacting with picks, bows, hammers, fingers, frets, dampers, and soundboards.
Through this direct approach, String Studio delivers guitars, basses, harps, clavinets,
bowed instruments as well as rich and animated tones that blend the warmth, naturalness, and
density of real-life with unique and innovative timbres from other-worldly instruments.
"Physical modeling provides us with the possibility to design synthesizers around the familiar
components of real-life instruments. Following this approach, we can develop synthesizers capable
of very realistic sounds but also extremely creative tones that still bear the organic qualities of
acoustic sounds, " said Philippe Dérogis, CTO of Applied Acoustics Systems. "With String Studio,
our goal was to capture the wide range of sounds and textures found in string instruments, but I
am particularly pleased that we have also succeeded to seize the dynamic characteristics,
responsiveness and subtleties of these instruments".
Pricing and Availability
String Studio is available now for both the Windows and Mac OS X platforms at a suggested retail
price of US$249. String Studio is available as a standalone application and supports DXi, VST,
Audio Units and RTAS (Mac OS X only) plug-in formats.
