PRESS RELEASE

E-mu Systems Launches Lower Cost Darwin

July 11, 1997

E-mu Systems, Inc. announces new exclusive distribution agreements with Guitar Center of Agoura Hills, CA, and Sweetwater Sound, of Ft. Wayne, IN. to become the USA retail distributors of the award winning, Darwin 8-track hard-disk recorder manufactured by E-mu Systems. Coinciding with the release of the groundbreaking DSP option, 2.01 operating software, the inclusion of a 2GB internal hard drive, and the new distribution arrangement, is a new lower price for Darwin that makes it more competitive with the lesser featured systems on the market. The Darwin hard-disk recording system is an award winning, random access, 8-track, modular hard disk recorder that has received much acclaim for its design, ease-of-use, and exemplary audio quality.

Partnership brings with it a lower price for Darwin

"E-mu has lowered the distributor price of Darwin to further increase interest in E-mu systems as a provider of digital audio solutions," comments Dave Bristow, VP of marketing for E-mu. "The lower anticipated street price, together with the new features afforded by Version 2.01 software, will improve our market share and make Darwin the most compelling digital recorder to the widest variety of users."

Partnership offers greater efficiency

The availability of Darwin is expected to improve substantially as a result of the new distribution partnerships. Darwin will be in stock and available for sale at all Guitar Center stores nationwide and it will also be available for purchase by phone through Sweetwater Sound, the nation's leading mail-order distributor. In addition, E-mu Systems will sell all Darwin options factory direct.

It is expected that Darwin will now be available through both Guitar Center and Sweetwater at an approximate street price below $2000 in the USA, complete with a 2GB fixed hard disk--a significant reduction from the previous retail price.

"This is an exciting breakthrough for anyone interested in a professional quality hard-disk recorder at an extremely affordable price" says Scott Emmerman, E-mu Director of Sales. "A new low street price and comprehensive, professional features will focus the market's attention on Darwin as the best value available in a recording system. It will be easier to see, try, and buy a Darwin now than ever before."

All options available now!

Darwin offers a variety of options that make it a flexible and powerful system, including the new DSP card, with its state-of-the-art 32-bit floating-point processor. Options for Darwin are available through Guitar Center and Sweetwater Sound, as well as factory direct from E-mu. "The fact is that Darwin has a terrific assortment of options available, such as the ADAT sync card, the ADAT optical card, and the new DSP card," notes Mike McRoberts, Audio Product Manager at E-mu. "These options really extend the functionality of Darwin, and allow the user to build on his investment."
