New Wireless Mics PackageExpansion of 800 Series UHF System Is Specifically Geared to MI Market July 11, 1997
They've been used on the concert stage and on Broadway, in ballrooms and in boardrooms. Wireless microphone technology has long offered users the benefits of mobility, creative freedom and clear sound. Now, Sony Electronics Inc. has taken the technology one step further. Building on the success of its widely regarded 800 Series of UHF wireless microphones, Sony has expanded the system with the introduction of a new set of low-cost, high-quality components ideally suited for performers and musicians.
"The Sony 800 Series has enjoyed tremendous success for years in a broad range of industries and applications including television broadcasting, concert sound and live theater," said Courtney Spencer, vice president of professional audio for Sony Electronics' Business and Professional Group. "Now, with the addition of these new, affordable and complete wireless systems, musicians and performers can achieve essentially the same high level of UHF performance at VHF prices."
The technology involved in UHF wireless microphone systems has traditionally placed the equipment at a price point that wasn't feasible for the working musician. With the anticipated street price of the new microphone systems at less than $1,000, Sony has created new opportunities for musicians at all levels, as well as professionals in a variety of other industries, to embrace the benefits of a high-performance UHF wireless mic system that doesn't suffer from the interference and distortion often associated with VHF systems.
The new products are available in three different pre-packaged configurations: a hand-held system, a wireless guitar system and a lavalier system, all fully compatible with previous Sony 800 Series products. Each system has a suggested list price of $1,095, scheduled for availability in October 1997. Modular in design, components of the series can be configured for a variety of applications, capable of operating up to 11 channels simultaneously. Employing Frequency Synthesis Tuning, the system provides instant access to 94 frequencies, permitting the user to respond to changing locations and varying sources of interference such as cellular phones or police radios. By utilizing Space Diversity Reception, the system constantly and silently compares incoming signals to locate and use the best one for the user.
The series' bodypacks and mics can be used with existing receivers, or existing transmitters can
be used with new receivers. In addition, a remote battery alarm monitors battery status, key for a wireless product so users are assured of continuous operation. A comprehensive, easy-to-read liquid crystal display is also built into the series' components to prevent mis-operation.
