TerraTec, the German sound board manufacturer and leading provider of premier audio hardware
unleashes the ever powerful Audio System EWS-64 XL, and the Sound System Base I at the
Summer NAMM '97 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Audio System EWS-64 XL redefines standards for PC multimedia delivering professional
broadcast quality audio recording/ production capability at consumer pricing, yet the affordable and sensible Sound System Base I brings all the advantages of 16Bit, CD quality sound to your PC for
multimedia applications, audio recording, and games.

TerraTec's Audio System EWS-64 XL is an ISA audio card with a 64 channel synth sampler and
digital, analog, and MIDI 1/0. The card's 64 internal channels can be used for either a sampler note or an audio stream, giving you a maximum 64-note polyphony. The card's 6 MB of sample RAM
can be upgraded to 64 MB with a standard 72-pin SIMM. GM/OS sound banks are reloaded. A 24
dB/ resonant filter, two LFOs, and three Envelope Generators are available for shaping samples.
The sampler automatically transposes and maps multisamples, just like a hardware sampler does.
There's also a 20-note polyphonic FM synthesizer.
Real time DSP effects include Reverb. Chorus, Flanger, Delay, Multiband Parametric 4 band EQ,
stereo sound enhancement (V-SPACETM) 3-D processing. You can set Reverb and Chorus send
levels for each channel. The EWS-64 XL's 1/0 jacks are split between the card itself and a 5 1/4"
module that fits into the drive bay on the front of the PC. The card itself holds 3 stereo analog
inputs and two stereo analog outputs. These use 16-bit A/D and 18-bit D/A converters. The card
also comes with a game port. The 5 1/4" module holds one S/PDIF input (RCA or optical) and two
S/PDIF outputs on RCA connectors, two MIDI In's. two MIDI Outs, and a 1/4-inch stereo
headphone out.
A MOD interface allows you to play up to 64-channel MOD files without using the CPU. The EWS
64XL also has a connector for a Waveblaster-compatible daughter card. You can also cascade
multiple EWS-64's to add more polyphony and sample RAM.
The Brand New Sound System BASE 1 from TerraTec Promedia brings all of the advantages of
16bit. CD quality. sound to your PC.
Compatible with all the major multimedia standards including SoundBlasterTM with integrated
3D-Sound (V-SpaceTM) and enhanced full duplex operation for Internet telephony applications. it is
the ideal upgrade for your PC.
The BASE I has a standard MIDI interface and a WaveBlasterTM compatible connector for adding a wavetable daughter board; to give seriously high quality music for audio recording, games, multimedia applications. or even for playing from a MIDI keyboard. PLUS: Media interface to connect with TerraTec's optional ActiveRadio upgrade module which gives you the possibility to listen to FM Radio stations, while you are working with your PC, in stereo and RDBS decoded!
Pricing and availability
The Audio System EWS-64 XL will be available in August 1997 with a S.R.P. (Standard Retail
Price) of $ 599.00 USD. Bundled software includes full synthesizer and sample editing packages
together with the latest Steinberg Cubasis Audio AV, featuring X stereo audio tracks and 64 MIDI
tracks. The Sound System Base is now available for a S.R.P of $59.00 USD and bundled software
includes 470 MB of software such as VocalTec's Internet phone, Steinberg's Cubase Score
(Demo), WaveLab (Demo) and Willowpond's MediaRack.
